180 Deutschland Scholarship for International Students in Germany

Applications are invited for Up to 180 Deutschland Scholarships at the University of Mannheim for the Academic Year 2017/2018. International students are eligible to apply for this scholarship programme.

The scholarships are awarded to promote talent and performance. Scholarship holders will be chosen by the selection committee of the respective school of the university. Applicants will receive a notification of the decision regarding their application.

The University of Mannheim is one of the best universities in Germany. This is demonstrated by their success within the scope of the nationwide excellence initiative as well as numerous rankings, awards and surveys among employees.

Course Level: Scholarships are available to pursue bachelor’s or master’s program, or a degree in teacher qualification at the University of Mannheim.

Scholarship Award: Each scholarship amounts to EUR 300 per month and is funded by a private funding provider and by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), 50 percent, respectively.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:

Application for the Deutschland Scholarship is open to enrolled students of all fields pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s, or state examination degree within the standard period of study as well as applicants for one these programs at the University of Mannheim.

Nationality: International students are eligible to apply for this scholarship programme.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have their previous degree.

English language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.

DAAD Doctoral Scholarships for Students in Germany

In cooperation with the DAAD, the Department of Philology at the Westfälische Wilhelms-University in Munster is offering two scholarships for interested and qualified international doctoral candidates in the area of literary studies starting October 1st, 2018.

Each DAAD scholarship in this programme comprises funding for up to three years or up to four years for applicants coming from developing or emerging countries.

Founded in 1780, the WWU Munster is a university with tradition. 250 courses of study, 37 000 students, a staff of 5000 including 565 professors – as well as 400 partnership agreements with universities and other academic institutions all over the world.

Course Level: Scholarships are available to pursue PhD programme.

Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded in the area of literary studies. Participating areas of study: American/English/Postcolonial Studies, Arabic/Islamic Studies, Baltic Studies, Book Studies, German Studies, Comparative Literature, Latin Philology/Studies, Dutch Stud-ies, Scandinavian Studies, Romance Studies, Sinology, Slavonic Studies. In its research, the Graduate School focuses on the following three broad areas:

  • Literature and Society
    (The relationship between Literary Studies, Social Theories, Cultural Theories and Studies, and Literature)
  • Theories of Literature
    (Philosophy of Science, History and Theory of Literature, Literary Theories)
  • Putting the Study of Literature into Practice

  • Proof that the applicant has completed a qualifying course of studies – the degree awarded must at least be 2,0 (B) or better (according to § 5, Abs. 1 and 2 of the study regulations)
  • Proof of German language skills according to appendix A (Anhang A) of the study regula-tions1
  • A detailed project proposal of the planned dissertation of about 10 pages in length, including a description of aims and planned topics, relevance within literary scholarship and method of research, as well as a detailed work and time schedule and a bibliography
  • Two letters of reference.2 If the applicant holds a Bachelor’s degree or has completed the first course of studies with a regular duration of fewer than eight semesters, three references must be submitted.
